Sophisticated Social Media is 2500 Years Old
Ever give a firm handshake on LinkedIn? Ever give a firm handshake on Facebook? Ever give a firm handshake on a conference call?
Sophisticated Social Media is 2500 years old.
Social media is critical to every person. Social media is necessary to build trust and respect with your audience be it one or one thousand. Social media is centuries over 2000 years old.
The 4th Century BC Greek genius Aristotle set the standard for social media. His books on presentation and persuasion techniques are still used today. His “Poetics” is the treatise on presentation skills. His “Rhetoric” is the treatise on persuasion techniques.
Each of you has the innate power and built-in tools to reach your audiences with your ideas without ever touching the keyboard, a mouse, or a touch screen. Your power and your tools are your mind, your voice, and your body — working in sync. They are the three most powerful social media tools in the world. Mind – Voice – Body.
Face-to-face is the ultimate social media. It is the media you need to use once you’ve connected with others using digital media. Your ability to connect with and persuade your audiences is as important as the material you have to present.
On one hand, many of you believe the most import things to communicate are feature/function. On the other hand, I believe what your audience needs to hear from you are the compelling reasons for what you want them to give — be it money or support. For what you want them to do. For what you want them to say. For that to happen, they need to get to like you. And that happens, from an in-person face-to-face interaction.
80 to 85% of your personal and professional success is based on your ability to successfully communicate and present effectively — face-to-face.
