You Need Charisma – Be Charismatic!

What is Charisma?

Charisma is based on the chemistry that Aristotle called “the logos, the ethos, and the pathos; that is, to persuade others, you must use powerful and reasoned rhetoric, establish personal and moral credibility, and then rouse followers’ emotions and passions. ”Simply put, as a charismatic leader the people you assemble have faith in you. You appeal to others. You deliver what you promise. You understand and practice collaboration and encourage dialogue.

Why Charisma will make you a better leaderCharisma is, according to dictionary.com, “The special virtue of an office, function, position, etc., that confers or is thought to confer on the person holding it an unusual ability for leadership, worthiness of veneration, or the like.”

In our dizzying world of technology, soft skills are more important than ever. Digital technology now ranks as a basic human need along with food and shelter. However, PEW Research and Carnegie Mellon are two of the many institutions whose research show that excellent communication skills are the key qualities for personal and professional success.

Personal charisma stems from the joy and passion that you bring to your leadership and how you translate your vision to your team. It starts with understanding your listeners or followers. Show them that you are constantly learning in the rapidly changing global economy. Point the way and provide direction on how to convert that vision into action.  Action with benchmarks and deadlines — not necessarily step by step direction. The key to success is to give your team — your followers — a reason to believe. Make each of them feel special with a reason for them to understand the personal benefit of following your vision.

Listen to the feedback from your presentations, speeches, discussions. If the word ‘passion’ is used in that feedback, then you are being charismatic!

The only thing more powerful than a big idea is your ability to communicate that idea to others.
